Materials We Build With

Choosing the right type of wood to use in your fence is an important decision. The type of wood you select will determine how much time and money you’ll have to put into long-term maintenance, as well as the lifespan of your fence. We primarily build our wood fences from Western Red Cedar, but we do provide pine as a more budget-friendly option.

Cedar Lumber

  • Durability: Cedar is more durable and rot-resistant than pine, so it is more likely to last longer.
  • Strength: Cedar is a stronger and more stable wood than pine, so it is less likely to warp or twist over time.
  • Insect resistant: Cedar is naturally resistant to insects, while pine is more prone to insect damage.
  • Appearance: Cedar has a more attractive appearance than pine, with a warm, reddish-brown color and a fine, straight grain. Pine has a more yellowish color and a coarser, more uneven grain.
  • Cost: Cedar is generally more expensive than pine, due to its higher quality and durability.

Pine Lumber

  • Cost: Pine is generally less expensive than cedar, so it can be a more budget-friendly option for a wood fence.
  • Maintenance: Compared to Cedar, pine will require more frequent staining to protect the wood from warping and rotting away.

Wood Fence Styles

When it comes to residential or commercial wood fences, we primarily offer two types: board-on-board & side-by-side. Both of these fence styles come with optional upgrades such as top cap & other trims.

Board On Board

Board on Board

Board-on-board fences have 2 layers of pickets. The first layer has a 3 1/2” gap between each picket, then we use the second layer of pickets to cover the gap between each board creating a 100% private fence.

Side By Side

Privacy fence

Side-by-side fences are your standard picket fence where the boards sit flush up against each other. After the installation of a side-by-side fence, the boards will shrink creating a small 1/4” gap between each board.

Horizontal

Horizontal fencing

A horizontal fence is your modern fence option. This fence style is a great option for those who prefer a modern look and want to open up their backyard space. They cost the same as a vertical fence so there's no added cost to choosing a horizontal fence.

Why NTX Fence Pros?

Metal posts

Galvanized Steel Posts

We use 2-3/8" galvanized steel posts that will outlive you and me. They're strong, won't rust, and gives your fence the structural support it needs to last as long as possible.

Cedar wood

Trim

Every wood fence we build comes with a 1x4 trim piece at the top of the pickets to hide the top of the pickets. This creates a clean, seamless look across the entire top of the fence. This also helps fight against any potential warping of the top of the pickets years down the road.

Kickboard

Kickboard

The main cause of pickets rotting is because of direct ground contact. We keep your pickets safe and off the ground by putting a 2x6 pressure-treated kickboard across the entire bottom of your fence, elevating your fence pickets and giving them the best chance at lasting you decades. It's really important to us that your fence lasts you as long as possible.
